What to book ahead
- A 5-day Flexible KORAIL Pass works well if you combine Seoul → Gangneung, Andong → Gyeongju, Gyeongju → Busan, and Yongsan ↔ Jeonju on high-speed trains.
- During mid-October peak foliage at Seoraksan and late-September Andong Mask Dance Festival, reserve accommodation at least 6–8 weeks ahead.
- Pack a small overnight daypack when visiting Sokcho/Andong and ship your large suitcase directly from your Seoul hotel to your Busan hotel.
Ways to adapt this route
- Add an extra night in Busan or Jeju if travelling at a slower pace.
- On rainy days, swap outdoor fortress or mountain walks for the National Museum of Korea, COEX Starfield Library, or a local jjimjilbang spa.
