Overview
Far more than South Korea's aviation gateway, Incheon is a historic port city of 3 million people where 19th-century treaty-port architecture, Korea's oldest Chinatown, futuristic eco-engineered smart districts, and Yellow Sea tidal islands meet just west of Seoul. Opened to foreign trade in 1883, old Jemulpo harbor preserves red-brick Japanese and Western concessions right beside the fairy-tale murals of Songwol-dong.
Fifteen minutes south along the coast, Songdo International Business District showcases 21st-century Korea with a saltwater canal park inspired by Venice, striking glass skyscrapers, and sunset boardwalks, while Yeongjongdo Island offers wide Yellow Sea beaches and freshly grilled clams minutes from the airport terminals.
