What to book ahead
- Fly open-jaw between Busan (PUS → CJU) and Seoul (CJU → GMP) so you never backtrack up the peninsula by train.
- If renting a car on Jeju Island, rental counters strictly require a physical printed 1949 Geneva or 1968 Vienna International Driving Permit alongside your home driver's license and passport.
- Allow at least 3 hours between a domestic flight arrival at Gimpo (GMP) and an international departure at Incheon (ICN); the AREX train connects the two airports directly in 38 minutes.
Ways to adapt this route
- Add an extra night in Busan or Jeju if travelling at a slower pace.
- On rainy days, swap outdoor fortress or mountain walks for the National Museum of Korea, COEX Starfield Library, or a local jjimjilbang spa.
